Administration on the horizon for castings manufacturer

A Humber region producer of iron castings is facing an uncertain future after filing a notice of intention to appoint administrators.

Russell Ductile Castings Ltd is based in Scunthorpe and employed an average of 64 workers in 2023. The business was established in 1983 and became part of Chamberlin PLC group in 1999.

In its report for the year ended 31 May 2023, the business recorded turnover of £10m, a 26% rise on 2022’s turnover of £8m. For the same period the firm reported pre-tax profits of £308,477 (2022: £558,005).

The annual report noted the business’s prospects were positive, thanks to a large high-quality order book of blue chip companies.

Russell Ductile Castings is a specialist in making complex castings of between 100kg and 7,000kg, supplying its products to a wide range of industries.

Its castings are typically used for large process compressors, renewable energy applications, industrial gas turbines and mining, quarrying and construction equipment.
