Rooftop restaurant to offer a taste of Kerala and create at least 70 jobs
Tharavadu, a South Indian restaurant based in Leeds, is set to open a new rooftop venue, Uyare, at Victoria Gate Leeds.
The restaurant group has signed a long-term lease to occupy the 7,000 sq ft space previously home to Issho.
Uyare will seat up to 350 guests, including a 15-person private dining room suitable for corporate events, and will feature distinct areas such as Bhoomi – The Earth Restaurant, and Agni – The Fire Bar.
The venue will provide a mix of small-plate dining and premium drinks inspired by Kerala, the home of Tharavadu’s founders.
The venture is expected to open early next year and will create over 70 new jobs.
Siby Jose, spokesman for Tharavadu, said: “As Leeds is our hometown, we are deeply committed to staying local, and it’s a privilege to be part of this vibrant community.
“Opening our second venue, Uyare, in Leeds city centre is a significant milestone for us – a chance to celebrate our roots and offer something unique for the people of Leeds.
“This prime location in the city allows us to meet growing demand from our loyal customers, expand our offerings, and remain true to what we do best, delivering an authentic, flavourful, and memorable South Indian dining experience.”
Rachel Bradburn, leasing director at Victoria Leeds, added: “To welcome such a popular and successful local operator to Victoria Leeds, and support their wider regional growth, is a really exciting prospect.
“Independent, regional brands continue to play a key role in our tenant mix, and we are pleased to welcome Tharavadu’s newest concept to our established food and drink line-up, providing yet another quality option for our customers.”
