Up to 75 homes proposed for Green Belt site

Developer Avant Homes has lodged plans to build up to 75 homes on Green Belt land between Menston and Otley, in West Yorkshire.

It has submitted an outline application for the site east of Otley Road to Bradford Council.

The housebuilder explains that at least half of the proposed properties would be designated “affordable”. It argues the need for new homes in Bradford District should outweigh the need to retain this Green Belt land.

A planning statement accompanying the application says the site is in a highly sustainable location. The statement adds: “It is envisaged that the dwelling types will be sympathetic to their surroundings, in terms of design, scale, appearance and materials.

“The scheme will provide a minimum of 50% affordable housing and will have an appropriate mix of housing types providing smaller and family units.

“Bradford Metropolitan District Council has a significant and acute shortfall in its Housing Land Supply. The scheme would deliver up to 75 dwellings to help address this deficit.

“The proposed development would provide appropriate level of green space within the residential scheme, thus ensuring the new residents are able to access good quality green space.”
