Waste management group unveils plans for £35m recycling plant

Indaver, a European waste management company, plans to establish a solvent recycling facility on Syngenta UK’s manufacturing campus in Huddersfield.
If all goes according to plan, construction of the plant would start in 2026 and it would be operational in 2028.
Indaver is investigating the feasibility of this project which would amount to an investment of £35m, as well as creating 16 new jobs and bringing more sustainable manufacturing processes to the region.
The proposed investment is part of a larger investment plan by Indaver in the UK, amounting to £750m.
The firm wants to build, own and operate a solvent recycling facility to process and recycle Syngenta’s industrial waste in a safe and sustainable manner.
Syngenta is a life science company which is supporting sustainable agriculture globally.
The facility would be designed to process and recycle 15,000 tonnes of industrial waste annually.
It would enable Indaver to recover acetonitrile (ACN), a vital solvent for agricultural product manufacturing, embodying the principles of a circular economy.
The recycling process would be a “closed loop system”, which means everything is processed in a contained, controlled and clean way on site.

Direct pipelines would connect Syngenta’s production facility to Indaver, enabling efficient and sustainable operations.
The partnership intends to enhance supply chain stability for ACN, address market volatility and shortages while supporting Syngenta’s sustainability goals of reducing carbon, water and waste intensity,
Karl Huts, CEO of the Indaver Group, said: “We are committed to investing in safe, sustainable solutions that drive the circular economy forward.
“This project reflects our dedication to innovative waste management, where valuable materials are recovered and reused, reducing environmental impact while strengthening local industry and creating long-term economic benefits for the community.
“By integrating cutting-edge recycling technology with strategic partnerships, we ensure a cleaner, more resource-efficient future for businesses and society alike.”
Head of strategic projects at Syngenta Huddersfield, Anssar Khan, said: “The new facility proposed by Indaver would support Syngenta in achieving its sustainability goals.
“The recycling operation reduces waste and lowers carbon emissions, as well as reducing the impact on local transport networks.
“This kind of development is well suited to our site vision of a manufacturing campus that can be a real asset to Kirklees, bringing positive economic impact to the area.
“Any new build is on industrial land and aligns with Syngenta’s commitment to minimising environmental impact through adoption of state-of-the-art technology.”
