Plans approved for city centre’s first indoor padel club

Developer Capital&Centric will soon bring Club de Padel to Sheffield, at its Cannon Brewery projects in Neepsend.
The extended pop up will bring the world’s fastest growing sport to a long-dormant brewery after plans were approved by Sheffield City Council.
Club de Padel, in collaboration with the developer, has started renovating the site and will be moving in to give this location a new lease of life while Capital&Centric starts to restore the brewery to its former glory.
It is turning the historic buildings into a community of 550 homes but has now carved out space for the city’s first indoor padel club.
Club de Padel will create five panoramic padel courts, alongside a club shop and bar.
The council approved plans for Cannon Brewery last July, to create an urban park and a new public square with shops, cafés and spaces for pop-up events, alongside the new homes.
Tom Wilmot, joint managing director of Capital&Centric, said: “Bringing padel to Cannon Brewery, is a great way of getting people back into the disused spaces whilst we get stuck in to transforming the site.
“It’s no surprise the team have enjoyed huge success so far, so we’re expecting it to be another big hit here in Sheffield.
“Padel is a great way of meeting new mates and keeping fit, which perfectly fits with what we want to harness within our communities, especially at Cannon Brewery.”
James Wigglesworth, co-founder of Club de Padel, added: “We’re looking forward to opening our second site in this incredible space.
“Sheffield has all the ingredients for us, and this building in Neepsend has bags of character, which felt perfect for our urban, inclusive club.”
Capital&Centric is aiming to deliver £200m worth of investment into the city across several regeneration sites.
It is working with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and Sheffield City Council to bring Cannon Brewery forward. The combined authority awarded a £11.67m grant to kick-start the regeneration last year.
