Building work restarts for affordable homes in York

Building work has restarted at Hutton Bank in Ripon to provide 37 affordable homes.
The project, which will deliver homes for affordable rent, rent to buy, and shared ownership, had faced some delays after the original contractor entered insolvency,
However, Yorkshire Housing has announced that its new contractor, Jack Lunn, has now started work on site.
Hutton Bank is a key development for Yorkshire Housing, turning a former warehouse site into high-quality homes in an area of high housing demand. With support from Homes England, this scheme will help more people find an affordable place to live in Ripon.
Steve Harrison, senior project manager at Yorkshire Housing, said: “It’s great to see work restarting at Hutton Bank, and we’re looking forward to delivering these new homes for the community. We know there’s a real demand for affordable housing in North Yorkshire, and this development will help more people get onto the housing ladder or access secure, affordable rent.”
The scheme originally secured outline planning permission from Harrogate Borough Council in 2021, with the newly formed North Yorkshire Council now overseeing the area.
It’s hoped the development will be completed by the end of October 2026.
