Progress for potash plans

SIRIUS Minerals said today it expects test results for the first drilling site at its York Potash project next month.

The company, which is developing plans to open the first new potash mine in the UK for 40 years in North Yorkshire, has now secured six planning application approvals to drill exploratory holes within the National Park.

Additional applications are expected to be submitted to the National Park within the next month.

Sirius Minerals completed a deal for the York Potash project, which has acquired extensive mineral rights in North Yorkshire, earlier this year and is in the process of carrying out test drillings at a number of locations.

Chris Fraser, managing director and chief executive of Sirius, said: “We are now on target for having the full assay results for the first hole during the second half of October.

“We are pleased with the progress on this important drilling programme and continue to work as quickly as possible to complete this phase of the project.

“We have already established good working relationships with our key contractors and will continue to keep the local community updated.”
