Sheffield City Region: Property projects back on track

SHEFFIELD has undergone a major physical transformation and is well placed to deliver new office and retail space as the recovery gathers pace.

Investment in public spaces in Sheffield, typified by the redevelopment of the area around the station, has dramatically changed the impression given to visitors and potential investors.

Recent figures also suggest that the area is one of the few regional markets to have seen an increase in office take up in the first half of 2011 compared to last year.

Earlier this year, Sky took more than 23,000 sq ft and created 550 jobs at Ventana House, part of the Digital Campus development.

The future of the commercial property market is considered in depth in a new supplement from TheBusinessDesk.com focusing on the Sheffield City Region, in association with DLA Piper and Sheffield Hallam University.

As calm returns to the economy, moves are now underway to move ahead with major projects that fell victim to the credit crunch.

The Homes and Communities Agency, Sheffield City Council and developer Hammerson have reached an agreement to push ahead with the stalled Sevenstone retail scheme.

Regeneration specialist Urbo is looking to revive the proposed £400m West Bar mixed-use development while expressions of interest are being invited for the development of a new £21.5m indoor market.
