FORMER England international football Gary Neville is to open a new office building in South Yorkshire.

Mr Neville, the founder of an organisation called Sustainability in Sport, will perform the honours at the Old Corn Mill, near Penistone which is one of only a few carbon negative commercial properties in the country.

He said: “It’s great to see offices like this being built. It just shows that businesses as well as individuals can do their bit for the environment.”

Sustainability in Sport works to improve the green credentials of sporting organisations and the ex-Manchester United player is himself investing in a new eco-friendly home.

Charles Booth, the man behind the Old Corn Mill, said: “It’s an honour to have all these people coming to the opening and it just shows that it is a really special building.”

THE Victoria Quarter has been shortlisted in the UK Property Awards.

VQ centre director John Bade said: “To be amongst the finalists for these awards is a significant accolade for the centre. It confirms the centre’s status not only within the UK, but also presents an opportunity for VQ to be seen in a global context.

“Along with VQ’s shortlisting in the Academy of Urbanism’s pan-European Urbanism Awards, it places the centre as one of the country’s foremost retail schemes as well as reflecting extremely well on the city of Leeds.”

The awards ceremony takes place on October 28 with the highest scoring winners going to compete against companies from around the world in the International Property Awards.

Havelock AcademyDRAWN Metal Group has completed a project worth more than £500,000 at Grimsby’s Havelock Academy.

The Leeds-based company has manufactured and installed windows, doors and curtain walling at the academy’s new £22m building in East Marsh.

John Holden, DML project manager, said: “We’re delighted to have been involved in the exciting Havelock development and pleased the academy will be the first organisation to benefit from the innovative Hybrid Window system.

“Our task on the project was demanding because we had to work alongside other contractors to deliver our work to immovable deadlines, but with thorough planning, co-ordination and the skill of our staff, this proved more than achievable.”

NEW funding has allowed agricultural machinery supplier Peacock and Binnington to buy its Selby site.

Peacock and BinningtonThe company has acquired the freehold to the site at Oakney Wood Road that it previously leased with support from Barclays Corporate.

Graham Main, managing director of Peacock and Binnington said: “With the new financial structure in place we intend to be pro-active in taking advantage of the opportunities the current climate presents and I’m delighted that we have been able to secure this site to meet growing demand in Selby – showing the company’s commitment to our customers, our staff and our suppliers.”

Barclays Corporate Director Kevin Peart said:  “Purchasing the premises they already operate from is a great move with the current low interest rates and shows confidence in their niche market.”

ESTATE agent Hunters has officially opened its 140th branch in Ilkley.

The branch was opened by Hunters president John Waterhouse at a ceremony attended by around 60 guests including MP Kris Hopkins.

Lester Hurst, the owner of the new branch, said: “I am absolutely delighted with our VIP launch event, the turnout was fantastic and it meant so much to me to be able to show local businesses, Hunters associates, friends and family, the results of our hard work.”
