Black Swan joins Michelin elite

THE Black Swan at Oldstead has become the sixth Yorkshire restaurant to hold a Michelin star in the latest edition of the prestigious guide.

Previously a holder of a “rising star” rating, the North Yorkshire restaurant with rooms is the only new Michelin star to be awarded in the North of England.

Anne Banks, from The Black Swan, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded a Michelin Star. We never imagined that we could bring such prestigious recognition to our local village pub when we bought it five years ago.”

Yorkshire’s five existing Michelin star holders retain their rating in the 2012 Great Britain and Ireland guide. They are

  • The Pipe and Glass Inn – Beverley
  • Burlington (at Devonshire Arms) – Bolton Abbey
  • Box Tree – Ilkley
  • Yorke Arms – Pateley Bridge
  • Old Vicarage – Sheffield

It is the eighth year running that the Box Tree restaurant, owned by Simon and Rena Gueller, has retained its Michelin star.

Mr Gueller said: ‘It is tremendous news for us, for the team and for our clients.  This is what we’re all about, and working hard to retain the Star, if not enhance our offer, is a goal to which we continue to strive.

“Being recognised by such a renowned authority in our industry on the best of the very best is an accolade with which we are delighted.”
