News in Brief: Sustainable food hall adopts zero waste policy; Black Sheep Brewery ‘dazzles’ hotel and more

FODDER, the Harrogate-based sustainable food hall, is adapting a zero wastage policy to help benefit the town’s homeless people and the environment.
In a bid to save leftovers from landfill and support a local initiative, the flagship food hall and cafe run by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society is joining forces with the Harrogate Homeless Project to help combat food waste. All Fodder’s edible food waste is now being given to the project.
Fodder’s managing director Heather Parry said: “Fodder is all about sustainability. We’re housed in the most sustainable building in the North of England, we source 85% of our food from Yorkshire, and our policy is to reduce, reuse and recycle. It makes sense to extend this ethos to our food waste which we work hard to minimise.”

BLACK Sheep Brewery is celebrating the installation of its 250th illuminated ‘Dazzler’ handpump.
The Masham-based brewer has decided to use an illuminated font to promote its cask ales, a new departure for the family firm.
Launched in December 2008, the Dazzler is now celebrating its milestone 250th installation at the Nidd Hall Hotel in North Harrogate.
Kevin Paddison, technical services manager at Black Sheep Brewery, said: “The new Dazzler is a move away from our more traditional image. We were conscious that our competitors were being more creative and we knew we needed to be noticed at the bar to appeal to a younger generation of beer drinkers. We particularly wanted the dispense to be in view of the customer- it adds to the theatre of the pour, so customers can see exactly what’s going on.”
