Marshall’s Mill secures new tenants

TWO growing companies are moving into an historic former flax spinning mill which is undergoing a major refurbishment.

UK-based global online advertising technology provider Flashtalking has expanded into new office space in Leeds following a series of clients wins internationally and the launch of a San Francisco office which opened in September.

The Leeds address at Marshall’s Mill is the technology hub for all six offices which also are located in London, Cologne, New York and Chicago.

Meanwhile, The Technology Forge, the Yorkshire-based leading supplier of software for property, asset and facilities management to the public and private sectors, has taken new office space at the mill in Holbeck Urban Village.

After 12 years in Otley, the company has taken a new 10 year lease at Marshall’s Mill.

Mark Wardman, managing director of The Technology Forge, said: “The new office will give swifter travel times to enable us to serve our UK wide clients more efficiently, as well as providing a high quality working environment in a fantastic listed building for existing staff and future staff.”

The owner of Marshall’s Mill, Igloo Regeneration Partnership, was represented by Carter Towler and Eversheds. The Technology Forge was represented by Tom Devine Strategic Property Advice and Brooke North Solicitors.

Flashtalking designs software which integrates and monitors online advertising campaigns for its clients, which include BMW, Marks & Spencer and Virgin Atlantic.

All software development takes place in Leeds with each office then providing local support to its international client-base.

This global expansion has meant that in just six years the Leeds office of Flashtalking has grown from a one-man office ‘pod’ in the Round Foundry Media Centre, graduating to several larger spaces within the building, before the recent move to a fully fitted out floor in the recently refurbished Marshall’s Mill development.

The 3,906 sq ft office space on the third floor of Marshall’s Mill will accommodate the Flashtalking tech team of 27.

Dan Freeman, technical director at Flashtalking, who started the company from home with managing director Paul Cunningham in 2001 and moved to the Round Foundry in 2005, said: “The developments here are ideal for companies like ours, offering a range of spaces in which we can grow and internet capabilities which accommodate the needs of a modern-day media company.

Paul Simmons, of Igloo, said: “We are pleased to see Dan and the Flashtalking team expand several times over and to be able to accommodate those changes and keep their energy in this area of the city as one of our first clients to take occupation within one of our newly refurbished office spaces in Marshall’s Mill.”
