News in Brief: Rapid success for recruitment firm; Award for Thorite; and more

RECRUITMENT business Blue Octopus, launched at the start of the year in Guiseley, has expanded its operation and appointed four more staff.
Turnover in the first quarter was double its anticipated target, and the company was also voted fourth in the jobsite.co.uk Recruitrank Top 10, a leading site for job seekers.
Blue Octopus is now planning to move to larger offices to accommodate its rapid growth.
Run by Chris Coleman and his brother Liam, the fledgling company has now set up Blue Octopus Software Solutions and appointed Talvinder Nagra and brother Sandeep to run the new division. The pair will continue to develop and maintain the internal sales and support systems within Blue Octopus.
A further two new recruits bring the Blue Octopus team to eight; Angela Bradshaw as service proposal co-ordinator and Kelsie Walton as client delivery administrator.

COMPRESSED air products and process systems supplier Thorite has won the Multi-Site Distributor of the Year award from compressor manufacturer Hydrovane.

The award recognises Thorite’s exceptional sales of Hydrovane compressors achieved during 2009, from the sales team at its Bradford hedaquarters and from the company’s eight other sales and service centres located throughout Yorkshire, Lancashire and the North East.
Managing director Stephen Wright said: “I’d like to personally thank every member of our sales teams for their contribution to the outstanding effort that lies behind the achievement of this award, particularly in view of today’s difficult financial conditions.”

ROTHERHAM Enterprise Board and UK Steel Enterprise are offering Rotherham businesses the chance to prove their worth to a panel of successful entrepreneurs.
The Dragons’ Den inspired event aims to offer local businesses a unique opportunity to further develop their established companies.
Businesses that are based in Rotherham and have been trading for three years or less are eligible for entry.
A select number of businesses will be chosen to enter the den on June 17, where they will pitch their business expansion dreams to a panel of successful Rotherham-based entrepreneurs.
£1,500 is up for grabs for the best pitch.
