Scandinavia campaign pays off for Wellhouse

MOTORHOME conversion company Wellhouse Leisure has exported its first vehicle to Sweden and is optimistic that Scandinavia could prove to be a lucrative market.

The entrance into the Swedish market follows a campaign targeting Hyundai dealers in Scandanavia backed by UKTI and amid growing interest in Huddersfield-based Wellhouse in other parts of the world.

The move builds on a developing partnership with Hyundai which currently sees Wellhouse convert its vehicles into campervans and sell them through its own showroom but in the near future will see them sold through the Korean company’s network of UK dealerships.

Anders Nilsson, chairman of the Hyundai dealers association of Sweden, has taken delivery of the first campervan and discussions are underway over how many more vehicles will follow.

Wellhouse Leisure managing director David Elliott said: “We have been working with a number of Hyundai dealers and importers around the world, and this is great news for all of us. It shows that you can successfully export in the UK motorhome industry.

“If all goes well, we might be looking at orders in the range of 50 to even 100 units a year, add to that the worldwide interest we are seeing, and we expect our turnover and the number of units we build to increase dramatically in 2012.”

Wellhouse Leisure is also in discussions with Hyundai in Ireland about the potential market for its vehicles there and has also had contact with dealers in New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
