New face as WYG builds for the future

BUILDING, environmental and housing consultant White Young Green today announced the appointment of a new chief operating officer as it said that trading during the first four months of the year had been positive with strong demand across all its businesses.

The Headingley-based group, which has provided consultancy work on stands at Headingley Stadium and York Racecourse, has recruited Paul Hamer from defence and support services company VT Group.

The 39-year-old, who joins on July 1, is managing director of VT Nuclear Services and has 20 years experience in the contracting, oil, chemical and petrochemical sectors.

Chief executive Lawrie Haynes, said of Mr Hamer: “He is a proven leader with a superb track record and has been the driving force behind delivering improved operational and financial performance across complex, multi-site organisations.  He has both the strategic vision and operational experience to take the company into its next phase of growth.”

WYG has also appointed Philip Collard as business development director and David Crichton-Miller as managing director of its environment, planning and transport planning operation.

Today chairman Peter Wood said he was delighted with the start the group had made to the year.

Recent projects secured by WYG include the project management of the 15,000 housing stock transfer from Liverpool City Council to Liverpool Mutual Homes, the £400m development of Clapham Junction in London, road improvement projects in Cork in Ireland as well as “socio-economic and technical projects” in Eastern Europe and Africa.

It said the three acquisitions made in the first half of its financial year, Savell Bird and Axon, IMCL and PH McCarthy, were all performing well.

WYG said that net debt remains in line with expectations and will be around £75m at the year end.

Mr Wood commented: “I am very pleased with the progress made in the year to date both in terms of trading and in the recruitment of talented individuals who will contribute positively to the ongoing development of the group.”
