Mexican lawyers hail legal positives
A VISIT from a delegation of lawyers from Mexico to Yorkshire has been declared a success and has created new business opportunities, according to the senior figures involved.
Leeds Legal welcomed a delegation of Mexican lawyers to Leeds.
The lawyers were part of a multi-sector business and academic mission taking part in Mexico Week in the UK, a project aimed at promoting trade and investment between Mexico and the UK.
Leeds was the only city to be visited outside of the capital.
Leeds Legal hosted a welcome briefing at DLA Piper in Leeds, followed by a law fair style networking event, where delegates learnt more about the Leeds legal market and about sourcing legal services from UK lawyers.
Participating Leeds law firms were: DLA Piper; Squire Sanders; Pinsent Masons; DWF; Clarion; Lupton Fawcett; The Needle Partnership; Virtuoso Legal and Shulmans.
The delegates also visited the Law School at Leeds Metropolitan University, where they were given a talk about how lawyers in the UK are trained.
The leader of the delegation, David Jiménez, Partner at Jiménez Romero y Asociados, said: “We were delighted to be invited to Leeds. This was my first time in the city and I was truly overwhelmed with what it has to offer, both in terms of the excellent financial, business and legal services but also the quality of life.
“The visit provided a fantastic platform for us to network with top UK law firms, build strategic alliances and explore potential business opportunities.”
Antonio Guillen, foreign property associate at DWF, said: “It presented a real opportunity to make contacts and share expertise. These days clients are becoming more sophisticated, having multiple properties throughout Europe so the ability to provide quality advice beyond the UK is paramount.”
