Consortium gets government cash

A BRADFORD-based consortium will receive £2m of government funding to implement a new programme that will help to transform the lives of older people.

Advanced Digital Institute is leading i-Focus, one of four consortia implementing Dallas (delivering assisted living lifestyles at scale), a national programme developed by the Technology Strategy Board, and joint funded by the National Institute for Health Research.

i-focus will explore ways of using innovative products, systems and services to create more independent lifestyles for people.

The group will test systems with communities throughout the UK and Dallas aims to involve nearly 170,000 people in communities across the UK by summer 2015.

The four consortia have been awarded £25m of government money, to which they’ve added their own financial contributions.

The i-Focus consortium will implement a number of projects across the country that will enable people to access support, advice, diagnosis, and help securely and directly from trusted organisations using devices such as tablets and laptops.

John Eaglesham, chief executive of Advanced Digital Institute, based at Saltaire, said: “I am delighted that the i-Focus consortium will receive this funding. The consortium will use this money to support a number of different projects that, by taking an innovative approach to the way existing technologies are used, and will support older adults living in communities.”
