A round-up of the weeks top appointments from Yorkshire’s financial sector.

COUTTS & Co has announced the appointment of Simon Groom as private banker to its South Yorkshire team.

Mr Groom will be advising the growing client base in the region, with a particular focus on the entrepreneur and professional market.

Mr Groom joins Coutts following five years as a financial planning manager and private banker for Gerrard in Manchester.

Prior to this, he spent 17 years within a variety private banking and consultancy roles throughout Cheshire and London.

RecruitSOUTH Yorkshire accountants Hart Shaw has recruited a new member to its expanding business recovery team.

Paula Uttley, from Kimberworth, Rotherham, is the firm’s new senior administrator, responsible for a portfolio covering a broad range of corporate and personal insolvency cases.

Prior to joining Hart Shaw, Ms Uttley had 14 years corporate insolvency experience with a global firm of accountants, and is a member of the Institute of Credit Management.

Based at Sheffield Business Park, the expanding firm offers specialist accounts, taxation, business advisory and support services to a wide range of businesses and individuals.

LEEDS-BASED accountancy firm Armstrong Watson has announced the appointment of Ian Prescott, formally of KPMG, as reward and employment tax consultant.

In quick succession to the appointment of Alex Millar, previously of Grant Thornton, his experience spans 12 years within the industry.

Nick Davies, newly promoted director of reward and employment tax, said: “My goal is to position Armstrong Watson as the largest and most highly skilled employer solutions practice outside London – Ian’s arrival has taken us a significant step towards achieving that target.”

THE Royal Bank of Scotland has announced it has made two key appointments within it South Yorkshire team. 

Alan Stanley has been appointed as associate director of business development to the commercial banking team. 

He will specialise in generating new business opportunities and providing financial services for customers that have a turnover of between £1m and £25m across Sheffield and South Yorkshire. 

He joins a four strong business team and brings with him considerable market knowledge of Sheffield and its surrounding area.

Pete Sorsby has joined as senior manager to the commercial banking team. 

Mr Sorsby has 19 years banking experience.
