Future looking bright for Carclo

CARCLO is set for a $10m windfall when the first shipments of its touch sensor technology are made later this year.
The technology-led plastics company’s Conductive Inkjet Technology arm will receive the prepayment from partner Atmel Corporation in the fourth quarter of the year.
CIT’s developing technology has been developed to be used on products including medical sensors, touch screens and displays.
Its inks have been adapted for digital inkjet printing and conventional printing and are produced at Carclo’s base in Cambridge.
In a trading update this morning, Ossett-based Carclo said its Technical Plastics division, a manufacturer of moulded plastic components used in medical, optical and electronics products, had won several pieces of new business “despite some signs of weakness in short term schedules in a small number of customers”.
“We are now planning to bring forward a substantial capacity increase in our US medical business to absorb this additional business,” the group said.
The group’s Wipac supercar lighting business has won a number of new contracts.
“Due to working days and seasonality, the second half of our financial year is usually stronger than the first half,” Carclo said.
“This year this effect will be further amplified by the build-up in volume production at CIT in the second half.”
The statement added that Carclo’s had cut debts and improved its financial position thanks to its recent £13.3m fundraising.
