Property sector scores for charity

PROPERTY and business professionals from across Yorkshire helped raise more than £25,000 for charity at the Yorkshire Property Charity Football match and dinner.

TV comedian Milton Jones joined former professional footballer and Sky Sports pundit, Dale Tempest, as well as a host of businessmen from across the county for a match that saw Yorkshire Property Agents beat Yorkshire Property Professionals 6-4.

David Woolman of Town Centre Securities scored a hat-trick for the professionals team, but the man of the match award was awarded to Agents goalscorer, Matt Lapianka, of Savills, by Wellington Place marketing manager, Dominique Simcox.

FootballMilton Jones then performed at a special sports-themed post-match dinner for more than 400 people at The Queen’s Hotel in Leeds, where auction prizes included a trip to Las Vegas, a signed Manchester United football shirt and a shirt signed by the country’s top referees, which was kindly donated by match-day referee, Martin Atkinson.

In total, it is hoped that the event will have raised more than £25,000 for Barnardo’s and The Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

The match was played on the purpose built, full sized football pitch at MEPC’s Wellington Place scheme.

Ms Simcox said: “This is the second time we have hosted this match. It is such a fantastic event and it’s great to get everyone together and competing for such worthwhile charities.

Football“It was great that so many people wanted to get behind this event again this year and helped to raise much-needed funds for Barnardo’s and The Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

“Although it was all in the name of charity, the teams really gave it everything they had during the match and did themselves and their companies proud.

“As you would expect, some of Milton Jones’s skills kept both the opposition and his team mates guessing, but his real star turn was at the dinner, where he had everybody there crying with laughter.”

Organising committee member Jonny Phillips added: “We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the game and attended the dinner.

“It was a fantastic occasion and really demonstrated the generous nature of business people in Yorkshire.”
