State of the Region – Is growth still realistic in uncertain times?

BUSINESS leaders in Yorkshire, the North West and West Midlands were united this time last year in their belief opportunities still existed for growth.

The hundreds of respondents to TheBusinessDesk.com’s annual State of the Region survey were also adamant that each region was still a good place to do business – but many warned that others in the UK were better.

Given the economic turmoil in both the UK and abroad over the last 12 months, have those sentiments now changed or are organisations glass half full?

Take TheBusinessDesk.com’s State of the Region survey and help paint a true picture of the business and economic landscape in what has been a landmark year.

Our major online survey is supported by lead sponsor DLA Piper and backed by Yorkshire Bank and the CBI.

It gives a comprehensive view of business sentiment across three of the UK’s biggest economic areas.

Following the collation of the findings of the survey, which looks at issues including international trade, employee issues and predictions for the UK economy, the results will be published on TheBusinessDesk.com in the New Year.

Jonathan Procter / DLA PiperJonathan Procter, head of Corporate at DLA Piper in Leeds, said: “Now in its fourth year, the State of the Region survey provides us with a unique barometer of economic strength in the region.

“Whilst confidence levels fell this time last year, the general sentiment in the market appears to be that 2013 could be the year of increased stability, creating the foundations we need on the road to full recovery.

“Whether this comes through in the findings remains to be seen but the data generated will allow us to compare levels of performance and confidence, whilst providing an indication of the challenges and opportunities currently being felt across the region.”
