State of the Region – Tell us about your business

A REGIONAL economy is only as strong as its underlying businesses and will continue to underperform if confidence remains fragile.

Recent economic data has provided us with mixed messages and this has clearly affected confidence.

But does the general consensus about how the economy is doing reflect what you are experiencing on the ground?

To draw a genuine ‘bottom up’ picture of how the regional economy is faring, we want to drill down and find out about your business. Are you feeling confident about your prospects for 2013? Do your business objectives reflect an optimistic outlook or will you continue to batten down the hatches?

Take TheBusinessDesk.com’s annual State of the Region survey and let us know how you are feeling about the regional economy and your own future prospects.

Our major online survey is supported by lead sponsor DLA Piper and backed by Yorkshire Bank and the CBI.

It gives a comprehensive view of business sentiment across three of the UK’s biggest economic areas:  Yorkshire, the West Midlands and the North West.

Following the collation of the findings of the survey, which looks at issues including international trade, employee issues and predictions for the UK economy, the results will be published on TheBusinessDesk.com in the New Year.

Richard May of DLA PiperRichard May, office managing partner at DLA Piper in Sheffield, said: “The UK economy is still fragile and as a result, the challenges facing Yorkshire have remained largely unchanged.

“Last year’s survey results highlighted that economic confidence was bleak and that many believed that the ‘green shoots’ of recovery had wilted.  However, with optimism among businesses in the region steadily increasing for the second consecutive month, it will be interesting to see where business and economic attitudes now lie.

“Are businesses in Yorkshire positive about the opportunities that lie ahead and ready to build on the resilience that has brought them this far, or do they foresee new challenges on the horizon?

“The State of The Region Survey always provides a fascinating insight into the mood of businesses and we’re looking forward to seeing just how the region’s business leaders will respond to the challenges of a new year.”
