Brough boost from £2.5bn BAE deal

BAE Systems has signed a deal to supply 12 Typhoon and eight Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft to Oman.

As well as supplying aircraft, BAE Systems will provide in-service support to the Royal Air Force of Oman. Deliveries are expected to start in 2017.

BAE employs around 10,000 people at Salmesbury and Warton in Lancashire making parts for the Typhoon and carrying out final assembly.

Chris Boardman, managing director of the BAE Systems’ Military Air and Information business said: “This is excellent news for those who work at our Warton, Samlesbury and Brough sites and comes at a great time of year.

“Many of our people have already begun their holiday break, and I’m sure the news will be further cause for celebration over the festive period and they’ll look forward to the year ahead.”

Oman is the seventh country in the world, and the second in the Middle East, to operate the Typhoon, joining the air forces of the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Saudi Arabia.
