Connect Yorkshire snaps up Scottish operation

YORKSHIRE technology entrepreneurs looking for funding could soon have access to a nationwide network of investors and resources.
Connect Yorkshire, in partnership with Connect Midlands and Glasgow Opportunities have been successful in acquiring the assets of Connect Scotland, which ceased trading a month ago after it ran out of funds.
There are now plans to form a new Connect UK network as a result of the deal.
Nick Butler, executive director of Connect Yorkshire, said that all three partners were intent on making Connect a nationwide service.
“This will ensure more technology and science companies receive the support they need to reach their maximum potential,” he said.
“In addition, the partners plan to make the functionality of mydealmaker.co.uk, which seeks to match entrepreneurs with the investors and resources they need, part of that offering.”
The new Connect Scotland will be up and running within eight months, although changes need to be made to its existing programmes.
However, other inspirational initiatives have been launched this year such as the national John Logie Baird Awards programme.
As part of the acquisition by GO group, existing partners and supporters of Connect Scotland will be encouraged to continue their involvement.
A consultation period is due to begin with interested parties who have previously supported and contributed to Connect Scotland over the years.
Jim Mather, Enterprise Minister, said that the development was good news for Scotland and the rest of the country.
“I am certain that Connect’s activities will complement the comprehensive range of innovation and investment support,” he added.
