Leeds City College in search for new executive director to drive business

LEEDS City College, one of the largest further education colleges in the UK, is looking to the private sector to recruit a new executive director to drive commercial development.
The new executive director role at the college, which is a £90m business with more than 1,700 employees and 40,000 students, will lead its commercial strategy.
Leeds City College chief executive Peter Roberts said that the move was part of the organisation’s plan to further develop and strengthen its commercial arm and its links with employers.
“The College is a business, like any other business, and we need to constantly be innovative by developing our markets and products for the business and commercial world” said Mr Roberts.
“We already have successful links with industry and commerce but we are facing reductions in our funding from central government and need to continue to diversify our income streams, improve the return to the bottom line, and reinvest in our property,” he added.

The new executive director will be responsible for the development of the overall college business engagement strategy, and lead on all external facing business partnerships. The successful applicant will drive sales activity and income growth but will also oversee the whole college apprenticeship delivery programme.
“This is an exciting new development,” said college chairman of the board, Neil McLean. “The need for colleges to be more commercially astute in their external business operations has never been more important and we are determined that Leeds City College continues to thrive and provide businesses with the services they need in the areas of apprenticeships, training and other commercial activity.”
