In Brief: New IoD regional director, Simpson Millar backs Leeds Utd, AESSEAL training

THE Yorkshire branch of the Institute of Directors has appointed its chair as regional director.

Suzy Brain England, who became regional IoD chair in January, will step into the role vacated by Kenton Robbins with immediate effect.

She holds a series of directorships in private and public sector organisations and runs her own coaching and mentoring company called Cloud Talking.

“My role is to listen to Yorkshire’s senior business people and ensure we deliver the learning and development they want to be a better director,” she said.

NATIONAL law firm Simpson Millar is backing Leeds United Football Club for the second year running.

The firm, which operates 11 national offices from its headquarters in Leeds, is led by life-long fan and managing partner, Peter Watson.

He said: “The city and the club are on the up as demonstrated by United’s latest poster campaign and messages across Leeds; everyone is looking forward to a new era with new owners and an experienced manager in Brian McDermott. I can really feel the excitement about this season building, so we’ll be ‘marching on together’ with the club at Elland Road and looking forward to success on the field after a good few years in the wilderness.”

Simpson Millar has offices in Sheffield, Manchester, Gateshead, Birmingham, Bristol, Lancaster, Cardiff and London.

In May, Australian law firm Slater & Gordon announced it was in talks with Simpson Millar about acquiring it, as part of three UK deals worth £23.4m.

COMPANIES seeking to improve their operations can take advantage of training offered by one of the engineering world’s leading players.

UK-based AESSEAL plc, the world’s fourth-largest designer and manufacturer of mechanical seals, with its Global Technology Centre HQ in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, is running specialist training for maintenance personnel, engineers and purchasing staff.

The courses are aimed especially at enhancing the mean time between failures – helping reducing costs – improving plant sustainability and allowing companies to focus on other business issues.
