International openings boost WYG’s strategy

ENGINEERING consultancy WYG is growing its international footprint with the opening of further operations in Africa and Europe.

Leeds-based consultancy WYG, which is active in more than 40 countries, has registered subsidiary companies in South Africa and Croatia, and has just opened an office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The company has also restructured its global businesses to enable it to offer the full range of its specialist services to clients around the world.

WYG is also providing its expertise in Poland as it helps the country to upgrade its roads in preparation to host the Euro 2012 Football Championships.

Paul Hamer, chief executive of WYG Group, said: “It is a critical thread of our three-part strategy to leverage our international position to create greater geographical and end-market diversity, and this new structure will stimulate further global collaboration across the group.”

WYG completed a refinancing deal earlier this year which saw a debt-for-equity swap take place in which shareholders in the business accepted a significant dilution of their stakes by approving restructuring plans.

The refinancing saw it move to the Alternative Investment Market (AIM).

Michael Tatham, the British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, officially opened the new office in Sarajevo.

Mr Tatham said: “WYG shows real commitment to investment and development, which is good not just for this UK based company, but also Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“This is the perfect way to show the British and other international companies that Bosnia and Herzegovina is becoming a safer and better place for investment.”

Mr Hamer added: “As we continue to move forward, we remain committed to creating a fit for purpose business that is strong, sustainable and better positioned to compete more effectively in our chosen markets and countries.

“In addition to our work in Poland, we recently announced our largest ever international programme in the Western Balkans and it is my vision to build on these successes to ensure we continue to deliver exceptional solutions and services to our global clients.”

The consultancy is now structured into four main areas of expertise: buildings and critical infrastructure; transport; energy and sustainability; and risk and assurance services.
