Business Moves: Sheffield hotel boosted by appointment and more

THE new Copthorne Hotel at Sheffield United’s stadium is gathering pace with the appointment of Orla Watt as general manager.

The contemporary four-star, 158-bedroom hotel is a joint venture between the Blades and Millennium & Copthorne Hotels.

It is expected to be completed in November.

Orla Watt joined Millennium and Copthorne Hotels in 2000 and has since gained extensive management experience with the company, working first at the Copthorne Slough Windsor, then as general manager at the Copthorne Hotel Calais between 2002-04, and most recently as general manager at the Copthorne Hotel Cardiff.

When completed, the hotel, together with the stadium, will offer the most extensive conferencing facilities east of the Pennines, with executive suites, meetings rooms, a stylish bar, 100-cover Pavilion restaurant and a state-of-the-art fitness suite that incorporates a 56-station gym.

THE National Federation of Enterprise Agencies (NFEA) has announced it has a new chairman – Dawn Whiteley, head of new enterprise at Business Link in Yorkshire.

Ms Whiteley has been on the NFEA Board for three years, serving as deputy chairman for the last two years after a year as regional director for the Yorkshire region.

She is the first female chairman for NFEA and is also the first under the age of forty.

At her role at Business Link Yorkshire, Ms Whiteley leads a team which encourages and helps people to start up businesses in the region.

The role involves working with partners, such as local authorities, young people’s agencies and other specialist support providers, as well as accountants, solicitors and banks.

She will serve as NFEA until September 2010 and will be supported in her role by two deputy chairmen – Doug Scott, chief executive from TEDCO in Newcastle and Harry Knowles, CEO from Furness Enterprise in Barrow in Furness.

YORWASTE, the North Yorkshire recycling and waste management company, has promoted four senior executives to become divisional directors as part of a general restructuring of the business.

Tim Reay, previously head of sales and marketing, becomes divisional director responsible for operations in Richmondshire, Hambleton and Scarborough districts.

He has been with Yorwaste since May 1995, when he joined as business development manager.

Phil Bedford, previously operations manager for Yorwaste, becomes divisional director responsible for the York area.

He joined Yorwaste in September 2005 as transport operations manager and was promoted to operations manager in June 2007.

Tony Sharkey, previously head of future technology developments, becomes director of Future Developments, responsible for all new strategic developments for the company.

He has been with Yorwaste since its formation in 1993.

Guy Widdowson, previously head of support services, becomes director of Project Developments.

He joined Yorwaste in January 2005.
