In Brief: Ciralight; Leeds Enterprise Centre; TAB; Humber LEP

CIRALIGHT UK has agreed a nationwide deal with Burton Roofing Merchants as the partner distributor for its energy saving active skylights product.
The new active skylights work by capturing available light and reflecting it down into the building for up to 10 hours a day, reducing energy consumption and providing environmental gains.
Steve Parkinson, director of East Yorkshire’s Ciralight UK, said: “This arrangement is a key part of our UK launch, and we will drive any sales and refer clients to Burton Roofing Merchants, who are a well-established independent merchant with a strong branch network.”
The partnership also forms part of the company’s vision of working with other Hull and Humber-based businesses.
Burton Roofing Merchants, set up in 1982 by Peter Burton, is based on Cleveland Street, Hull. It is one of the UK’s largest independent roofing distributors.
The company has eight depots, including York, Stockton, Brechin, Leeds, Newcastle, Livingston and Southampton, with plans for more, carries a minimum of £5m worth of stock and has more than 125 staff members.

The two businesses to join the centre are Positive Action for PTSD, a social enterprise which aims to help people with post traumatic stress disorder, and JLife, which has nine staff producing two glossy magazines aimed at the Jewish Community. A third tenant is charity Forgotten Heroes, run by Adam Douglas. It supports the carers of injured servicemen, offering signposting and guidance on how to get help.

THE Alternative Board (TAB) in York and the North Yorkshire region is growing.
Owner of TAB York and North Yorkshire, Ed Reid, said: “Savvy business owners know that the best advice they can get is from other business owners and so I’m thrilled that TAB York is growing in response to demand from regional businesses.
“With an impressive track record of strategic leadership across diverse business sectors, Julia Sutton-McGough and Jackie Mathers are joining me at TAB York, where they will develop their own TAB boards and provide strategic consultancy and coaching to some of the many brilliant businesses in the region who want to achieve even greater success.”
Julia Sutton-McGough has a record of leading and delivering strategic projects in the pharmaceutical industry, charity sector and NHS and Jackie Mathers’ background includes commercial banking and, most recently, higher education. As dean of the Business School at York St John University, she held responsibility for strategic management of the School, building partnerships regionally, nationally and internationally.
Launched in 1990 in the USA, TAB provides peer advisory boards and coaching services for business owners, managing directors and CEOs worldwide. There are over 140 TAB franchises operating in five countries including the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. TAB UK headquarters are in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

EU stats used to calculate allocation of Youth Employment Initiative funding has seen Hull miss out.
The Humber LEP is now lobbying government to receive some of the £16.4m the UK Government that it is able to allocate outside the areas predefined by the commission.
Chair of the Humber LEP, Lord Haskins, said: “Being automatically counted out of funding for something we are in clear need of in the region is disappointing and doubly so because the proposals through our City Deal and Investment Fund Strategy would be able to deploy this additional funding effectively when combined with our current funds.”
