Planning granted for hospital site redevelopment

PLANNING permission has been granted for a £13m residential scheme at the former Wharfedale Hospital site in West Yorkshire.

Manchester-based developer PJ Livesey Group plans to restore and convert the Grade II listed Victorian hospital buildings in Otley into 35 apartments and build 26 homes in the grounds.

The firm bought the site from the Homes and Communities Agency and said it amended an existing planning consent to provide more green space and less housing.

Development director James Woodmansee, said: “This is a perfect example of how the company can unlock sites by restoring important listed buildings and converting them to new use alongside sensitively designed new build.

“The scheme received the unanimous backing of the planning panel and we intend to start work on site early in the New Year.”

It takes the number of live sites being developed by the group to six. Other schemes include the conversion of Lancaster Moor Hospital, Mostyn House School on The Wirral, Ditchingham Maltings in Norfolk, Stone House Hospital in Dartford and The Cottonworks in Bolton.

A planning application for the former Beverley Westwood Hospital site in East Yorkshire, is due to be heard in January.
