Work to start on £20m leisure centre

WORK is expected to start this month on a £20m leisure centre after it was given the go-ahead by planners.
BAM Construction, which has an office in Leeds, is set to build The Leisure World facility in Bridlington.
The site will include a six-lane, 25m swimming pool, a smaller learner pool, a freeform pool with water features, two water slides and swimming spectator seating for 150.
Sports fans will benefit from a six-court sports hall, two squash courts and a feature climbing wall.
John Phillips, construction director for BAM Construction, said: “We’ll bring a local team to this project together with our reputation for quality and our considerate approach. It’s an exciting project – the leisure sector often has unique buildings that need an eye for quality and a collaborative, problem-solving culture like ours. We will also try to deliver economic benefits for the area, involving local firms as much as possible.
“It’s our second major leisure project in the region, with Huddersfield Sports Centre under construction and three projects in Hull.”
