Optare wins order

BUS maker Optare has won an order worth £2.7m for 17 of its single-decker Tempo models.

The contract from transport firm Transdev London will see the low-weight, heavy-duty models used on a route connecting Hounslow with Richmond via Isleworth.

The Tempos will be built to a comprehensive Transport for London specification that includes air conditioning and seating for 34 passengers plus room for 46 standing.

Blackburn-based Optare, which has a base in Leeds, said the buses would be built at its Leeds plant, where all integral bus production has recently been centralised.

Jim Sumner, Optare’s chief executive  said: “Following the successful completion of our strategic partnership with Ashok Leyland, I am extremely pleased to be able to announce this significant order which will be a good test of the well proven durability, reliability, fuel economy and low environmental impact of Tempo on a very demanding London route and am looking forward to Optare’s future with confidence.”
