Yorkshire retail development gets green light

PLANNING approval has been granted for a new retail park in Rotherham.

The five unit, 50,000 sq ft development on the 3.87 acre site adjoining Parkgate Town Centre will be anchored by Aldi Foodstores which has agreed to take 16,500 sq ft.

The developer Gregory Property Group has also announced that over 70% of the remaining floor space is under offer to three national retailers.

Richard Tovey, director at Gregory Property Group said: “We are delighted to have secured planning approval and must commend Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council for its cooperation throughout the process.

“Delivering a new Aldi fulfils a local need for an easily accessible discount food store as this was ‘lost’ to the area when the original Netto store was taken over by ASDA.  The site has been vacant for many years and we will be pleased to bring it back into use for the benefit of the Parkgate community.”

Mark Taylor, property director at Aldi, added: “This is great news for the residents of Parkgate and Rawmarsh and Aldi looks forward to holding a recruitment seminar to aid the creation of local jobs.”

Gregory Projects is working in collaboration with land owner and local business Ron Hull Jnr to deliver the development.

Gregory Property Group hopes to start work in site this summer with a nine month build programme.

GVA in Leeds is advising Gregory Projects on the lettings and the Sheffield office of Knight Frank is acting for Ron Hull Jnr.
