Lifestyle in brief: La Casita; M&S; Tropeiro

NEW Spanish tapas bar, La Casita, is set to open in one of Ilkley’s most iconic, turn-of-the-century buildings.

The 68 cover tapas bar, co-owned by business partners Ben Riley, Mr S. Miller and Oliver Renton, will occupy the mezzanine level of the historic Victorian Arcade on South Hawksworth Street and will open its doors this month.

Keeping many of the premises’ original architectural features, the new owners have renovated the upper level space in a sympathetically Spanish style and plan to make the adjoining outside seating area a key feature of the bar.

THE redevelopment of a former car showroom site into an M&S Simply Food store in Harrogate has reached a milestone with the completion of the building’s steel frame.

The 32,000sq ft development, on the former Nidd Vale Motors site on Leeds Road, is due to be completed in June. The project is being managed by St James Securities on behalf of Hornbeam Park Developments. The contractors are GMI Construction Group.

Remediation works on the site to remove seven fuel tanks and earth contaminated by diesel oil for specialist disposal has been completed while the former buildings on the site have been recycled by being crushed and re-used to establish two distinct levels on the sloping site.

The new building has been designed by DLG Architects and construction is due to complete next month, with the fitting out of the store following.

A Brazilian restaurant chain is up for sale after being put into administration.

Camboriu Restaurants, owned by Volnei Borgert, trades as Tropeiro from five sites, Chester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Aberdeen and Glasgow. A sixth restaurant in Carlisle closed earlier this year.

Ian Wright from Glasgow-based WRI Associates was appointed administrator on January 31 after HM Revenue & Customs issued a winding-up petition over unpaid VAT.

Mr Wright has been trading the business, which employs around 112 full and part-time staff, and is seeking a buyer.

He said: “The restaurants are all still open and are continuing to trade and it’s very much business as normal. Everything’s going well. We’ve done our best to attract as much interest as possible and have received a number of offers which we’re reviewing.”

Mr Wright said interest in the business had come from investors, landlords and rival operators.
