Former Morrisons online executive takes new role at rival

GEORGE Dymond, the man hired to oversee the day-to-day running of Morrisons’ online grocery service and quit last month, has re-emerged at Tesco.
He has joined the rival supermarket giant as operations development director. Both Tesco and Morrisons declined to comment.
Prior to joining Bradford-based Morrisons, Dymond was group general manager of merchandise at Coles, the Australian retailer.
It is understood that Dymond was hired to run Morrisons’ online operation but was offered a more trading-based role and turned it down as he was keen to move away from that type of position.
The news comes after Morrisons unveiled disappointing sales as it said the Christmas period had been “very challenging” with a slowdown in market growth.
In the six weeks to January 5 2014 total sales, excluding fuel, were down by 1.9% (3.3% including fuel) while like- for-like sales declined by 5.6% (7.1% including fuel).
The group said the difficult market conditions were intensified by the accelerating importance of the online and convenience channels, where Morrisons is currently under-represented.
