Tenth year of profit growth for funeral services group Dignity

FUNERAL services group Dignity, which acquired Yorkshire rival Yew last year, has seen a steady increase in both revenue and profit before tax.

Its profits have now grown every year since it floated ten years ago.

The firm’s preliminary results for the 52 week period ending December 27 show revenue up 12% to £256.7m on a year on year basis. Profit before tax was up- by 9% to £49.6m.

Dignity – the UK’s only listed provider of funeral services – said all three operating divisions showed strong operating performance.

It also said that customer satisfaction remains at very high levels, with 99% of families saying it met or exceeded tits expectations and 98% saying they would recommend it to others.

The acquisition of Yorkshire rival Yew – completed in January 2013 – has performed in line with the board’s expectations.

Mike McCollum, chief executive of Sutton Coldfield-based Dignity, said: “Our core businesses have also produced a strong performance, delivering robust operating profit growth in the year.

“The board remains confident in the group’s prospects and considers its well tested strategy is still appropriate in the current market.

“As expected, 2014 has started quietly, however the board’s expectations for 2014 remain positive and unchanged.”
