Unity Enterprise announces major regeneration project

THE enterprise arm of Leeds housing association, Unity, is embarking on a £1.63m regeneration project at two of its business centres in the city – the Chapeltown Enterprise Centre (CEC) and the Unity Business Centre (UBC).

The project – which includes improvements to both buildings coupled with ongoing business support – has been match-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (EDRF) and Leeds City Council’s Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI).

Unity Housing Association’s development director, Wayne Noteman, said: “This is a highly important project not just for Unity but, more importantly, its business tenants.

“This project will upgrade over 3,000 sq m of affordable workspace. Our investment at the centres will bring another 25 years of working life to two valuable community assets. This secures the long-term future of 79 affordable workspace units for small local businesses. At the same time a further three units will be created at UBC. When the work is completed the two business centres will provide 82 affordable workspaces and will offer business support and advice. It’s going to be a real boost for the local economy and complements other regeneration work in the Chapeltown/Harehills area.”

Unity Enterprise has been part of Unity Housing Association for more than ten years. UBC was first taken under its wing, followed by CEC and, more recently, the Leeds Media Centre.
