In Brief: Leeds Building Society; Carclo; ITM Power

ALMOST 80,000 members of Leeds Building Society have signalled their support for the leadership team through the re-election of several board members.

Robin Litten, Kim Rebecchi and Les Platts were re-elected by a “significant majority” at the mutual’s annual general meeting, while votes also saw the election to the board of Susan Cooklin as a new non-executive director.

“I’m delighted by members’ support for the Board following Leeds Building Society’s strong performance in 2013, which clearly demonstrates the continued effectiveness of our business model and the important role building societies have in UK financial services,” said chairman Robin Ashton.

“Each director received more than 95% votes in their favour, which I believe endorses the Society’s strategy for running a successful business and continuing to invest in sustainable growth to deliver security, value and excellent service to members.

“In my first year as chairman, I am pleased to report another strong performance and a good set of financial results – my thanks go to colleagues in all parts of the business for helping to deliver these results.”

CARCLO has settled its litigation with Uni-Pixel.

The Ossett-based business’s technology arm, CIT, accused the US-based business of stealing its confidential “know-how”.

CIT has agreed to withdraw its UK claims that Uni-Pixel has used CIT’s confidential information.

No money changed hands as part of the settlement.

YORKSHIRE energy storage and clean fuel company ITM Power has secured a £2.8m contract to supply three refuelling stations in London.

The stations will be the first green hydrogen deployments in London.

ITM Power’s chief executive officer, Graham Cooley, said: “We are delighted that London will be at the forefront of hydrogen adoption for transport.  This project is another example of how infrastructure spending to support FCEV roll out is accelerating – in Europe, in North America and in Asia.  This is a global effort and ITM Power’s clean electrolyser technology should ensure that we remain at the heart of what is becoming a very substantial market.”
