City Appointments: Billington; Hargreaves

STRUCTURAL steel group Billington Holdings has appointed a new chief executive.

The Barnsley-based group’s current chief operating officer Mark Smith will become the new chief exec as current CEO Steve Fareham retires and acts as a non executive director.

Fareham said: “I have known and respected Mark for over 20 years and he has very quickly settled into his role with Billington. With his new team firmly in place and a growing confidence in the business, I have decided to bring my retirement date forward from the previously announced date of June 2015 to the 1st January 2015. After over 46 years with Billington I am absolutely delighted to be offered the role of non-executive director and look forward to continuing to support Mark and my co-directors in the future.”

HARGREAVES Services has appointed a new deputy chairman.

The mining group has appointed David Morgan to the position.

Tim Ross has served as chairman for nearly nine years and has decided to step down as chairman and from the board.

Ross said: “I am delighted that the board has appointed David Morgan as deputy chairman with a view to his succeeding me in 2015.  He has an impressive track record and I am sure that he is the right person to take over from me as chairman.”

Morgan added: “I am delighted to be appointed deputy chairman of this market-leading group, which I joined as a non-executive director almost three years ago.  I look forward to continuing to work with Tim, Gordon Banham and the whole board to deliver the group’s strategy.”
