Pure Gym flexes its muscles further

YORKSHIRE gym operator Pure Gym has expanded its presence in the Merrion Centre and created more than 30 new jobs.

The 24-hour gym giant already occupies a 21,200 sq ft gym in the Merrion Centre as well as its headquarters and is now acquiring a further 4,750 sq ft.  It has signed a further 10-year lease agreement at Town Centre House with Town Centre Securities (TCS).

Brian Scurrah, development director for Pure Gym, said: “This move supports our continued growth plan. The Merrion Centre was our second gym opening in Leeds and we are on course to own 90 clubs by the end of the year and 150 clubs by 2016. Our roots are in the North and it makes sense for us to house our ever growing support services in the heart of Leeds in the thriving Arena Quarter, Merrion Centre offers us the space and support in order to do this.”

The fast growing, low cost fitness club was establish in 2008 by leisure entrepreneur, Peter Roberts and now has over 400,000 members across the UK.
