Caring For Yorkshire: Celebrating 10 years of community spirit with a call to action

LEEDS Community Foundation (LCF) has issued a challenge to the businesses and people as a way of marking its 10th birthday.

In the past ten years, LCF has helped transform the lives of individuals and groups of people through the generosity of its donors.  But the need continues to grow; last year LCF received nearly twice as many applications as it could actually fund. To meet that demand, it has launched a challenge to raise money through a wide range of methods that encourage as many people as possible to get involved.

LCF’s story is part of our Caring For Yorkshire supplement. Working with construction group, Esh, TheBusinessDesk.com has published an in depth report looking at the role corporate social responsibility has in business. To download the supplement, click here.

Funds can be raised a variety of ways – from organising a fundraising event, doing a fun run or working with LCF by joining its patrons’ network, the 100 Club, to simply making a one-off donation. Gifts of over £10,000 allow you or your organisation to set up a personal fund to address an issue you feel passionately about in Leeds.   LCF is an expert in advising businesses and individuals on charity giving and how donations can make a real difference.

Sally-Anne Greenfield, chief executive of Leeds Community Foundation, says: “This is the perfect opportunity for the people of Leeds to get involved with the work of the Foundation and help us create a better future for our city. LCF only has enough money to fund half of the groups that currently apply for grants. We are hopeful that our birthday challenge will not only raise money to tackle key issues such as social isolation and child poverty, but will also raise awareness of the issues and get local people thinking about how they can make a difference in their local community.”

This year, LCF will also plan to hold a conference to share best practice. Greenfield says the foundation will try and get companies who aren’t involved, involved.
