Caring For Yorkshire: Construction group continues to boost its ‘added value’

CONSTRUCTION Group Esh is ramping up its work in schools as it aims to tap into more of the region’s up and coming talent.

The group, which is headquartered in Durham but has a growing Yorkshire division which employs more than 120 people, has a strong focus on “added value” – its version of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

This week, TheBusinessDesk.com and Esh have teamed up to produce a major report looking at CSR and what it means to businesses. To download it, click here.

Esh Group plans to increase the number of schools it works with in Yorkshire from nine to 20. IT works with schools in the region to complete a programme of skills to help young people create the right skills for the workplace.

The group is also on a mission to train 150 apprentices in the next three years across Yorkshire, Cumbria and the North East.

The apprentices will join the Esh Academy and benefit from training and mentoring. The Esh Group also provides support for young people through a variety of schemes. In the last year 6,200 students at schools across the North benefitted from the ‘Building My Skills’ programme which is co-ordinated by Esh Group and delivered with support from business partners.

Brian Manning, group chief executive of Esh Group, explained: “We’re now looking to add real ‘bite’ by offering traineeships and jobs to some of the youngsters who successfully come through our already very effective employability programmes which we deliver with our business partners.

“We hope our business partners will join forces with us and take on board this approach and that we will be able to extend the opportunity to the work we have done with ex-offenders and social enterprises such as Changing Lives.”
