Europe’s "largest city centre development opportunity" among Yorkshire’s MIPIM jewels

LEEDS and Sheffield are joining forces to present a combined investment opportunity at an international property event next month.

The two city regions will share a stand at MIPIM 2015, which takes places in Cannes from March 10-13, as they seek to demonstrate the region’s investment readiness.

Leeds is preparing to unveil six major investment opportunities, including “the largest city centre development opportunity in Europe”, to investors, developers and occupiers at the four-day event.

While Leeds and Sheffield are combining their resources, the cities of the North of England are also coming together to present a united front about the attractiveness of investing in the area.

Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle will appear alongside the Yorkshire representatives at public and private events as they seek to make a persuasive case about the economic potential of the Northern Powerhouse.

The city regions’ presence at the international showcase is a partnership between the public and private sectors, with Arup, CEG, GVA, Shulmans and Town Centre Securities among the businesses that will be alongside the Leeds and Sheffield stand.

“MIPIM is all about doing business,” said Andrew Latchmore, partner at Shulmans LLP and chair of Leeds Property Forum. “MIPIM is crucial to Leeds City Region if it wants to reach an international audience and cement its position as a location for world class development and global investment.”

James Newman, chairman of Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership added: “In such a highly competitive market place, working together and having a connected ambition can only strengthen our proposition. Our focus for MIPIM 2015 is to build upon the success both city regions experienced at MIPIM UK in October and to showcase the economic potential we both have.”

Leeds City Region’s presence at MIPIM is led by Leeds and Partners, on behalf of the Leeds City Region LEP before it formally because part of the same organisation.

Its outgoing chief executive Lurene Joseph said: “Our key objective this year is to showcase the major investment ready opportunities available to potential investors alongside the region’s strengths, specifically around access to funding and infrastructure, to shape not only the vision of Leeds City Region but accelerate strategic economic growth.”
