500-acre property scheme tees up European Tour golf for Doncaster

THE European Tour has backed plans for a tournament golf destination in South Yorkshire that will now go before planners later this year.

The ambitious plans at the 500-acre site at Rossington Hall, Doncaster, include a tournament quality 18-hole golf course, a 9-hole club course, a club house, leisure facilities and 500 houses set alongside the course.

An outline planning application for the project, which has been supported by Welcome to Yorkshire, will be submitted in the coming months and – subject to approvals and the development meeting the schedule – golfers could be teeing-off at Rossington Hall in Doncaster within the next couple of years.

Rossington Hall Golf Developments is a vehicle created by four Doncaster businessmen for the scheme which is backed by Doncaster Council and would sit under the European Tour Destination banner.

David MacLaren, director of property and venue development at The European Tour, said: “We hope to bring both a long-term relationship and top flight professional tournament golf to the venue once it is developed. We see huge potential with both this development and the region and look forward to a prosperous partnership.”

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones added: “It’s a real feather in our cap that Doncaster has been chosen as part of the expansion of the European Tour Properties’ exclusive network of world class golf destinations.

“Doncaster is on the up as a tourist destination with visitor numbers to our wide range of attractions going from strength to strength.”
