Di Burton exits after MBO at Cicada Communications
PR FIRM Cicada Communications has seen its management team take over the business from from founder Di Burton.
Ms Burton has launched an eponymous consultancy business that specialises in internal communications, training and high-level strategic advice. She will continue to work alongside the Cicada team at its Harrogate office but is no longer involved in the management of the business.
Cicada Communications is now owned and operated by Richard Abbott, Jane Chamberlain, Clare Walker and finance manager Vicky Carswell.
Ms Chamberlain has worked in PR for more than 30 years, while Ms Walker is a former Yorkshire Post journalist with more than 15 years of PR experience. Mr Abbott joined Cicada last year after editing Yorkshire Business Insider for four years.
Following the takeover, the team says it’s “business as usual” for Cicada, with no major changes to how the company operates.
The business has undergone an administrative change, with the original company changing its name to DI Spy before entering voluntary liquidation. A new company, Cicada Communications, has been created. However the company’s new directors have said “there were no debts involved at all” and the process was to enable Ms Burton “to maximise her return from the business”.
Cicada specialises in PR, event management, marketing and social media. Clients include Langleys Solicitors, Finance Yorkshire, OneFamily (formerly Engage Mutual), Carter Jonas and Costcutter.
