"All systems go" as Scunthorpe United’s £18m stadium plans approved

FOOTBALL CLUB Scunthorpe United has been given the go-ahead to develop a 12,000 seater stadium.

The development is set to create 164 permanent roles and 190 part time jobs at the Lincolnshire Lakes site.

Club chairman Peter Swann is named as the applicant for the development, which is predicted to cost around £18m.

A 94-bedroom hotel, as well as a restaurant , outdoor training pitch and car park are included in the application to the North Lincolnshire Council.

“We will be able to announce details of the contractors who we have got to build the stadium in the middle of May,” said chairman Peter Swann.

“Now it’s all systems go as we embark on an exciting journey for the club.”

The plans have been green-lit under the provision that concerns from the Highways and Environment Agency over flooding have been resolved.
