Wrigleys make Living Wage commitment

THE Living Wage Foundation have accredited Wrigleys Solicitors as a Living Wage employer.

Permanent employees at all levels, third-party contractors and suppliers at the Leeds and Sheffield offices of the firm, will receive a minimum hourly wage of £7.85 as opposed to minimum wage, which stands at £6.50.

The Living Wage is updated annually based on the basic cost of living using the ‘minimum income standard’ for the UK.

They join other Yorkshire firms such as recruitment group Brewster Pratap, the Kelda Group (which includes Yorkshire Water), Leeds Trinity University, listed firm Marshalls, Traveleads, Spaghetti Construction and the Spencer Group.

Managing partner Paul Nash said: “Since Wrigleys formed, it has been the partners’ aim to create an organisation that places clients and staff at its core, with the confidence that good service will then follow inevitably. This move helps us to further that strategy.”

Employers choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis. The Living Wage enjoys cross party support, with public backing from the Prime Minister and the former Leader of the Opposition.

Living Wage Foundation director, Rhys Moore said: “We are delighted to welcome Wrigleys Solicitors to the Living Wage movement as an accredited employer.

“The best employers are voluntarily signing up to pay the Living Wage now. The Living Wage is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.

“We have accredited over 1,000 leading employers, including Wrigleys, ranging from independent printers, bookshops and breweries, to well-known companies such as Nationwide, Aviva and SSE.

“These businesses recognise that clinging to the national minimum wage is not good for business. Customers expect better than that. “
