Charity: Tour de Baker Tilly, Squire Patton Boggs singathon

ACCOUNTANTS at Baker Tilly are gearing up to launch the firm’s second national charity bike ride, The Tour de Baker Tilly.

Back this summer by popular demand it has an even bigger fundraising target of £25,000.

The two week cycling event, which runs from 25 June – 9 July involves staff from Baker Tilly’s offices across the UK, together with clients and business contacts and is being held to raise money for the firms supported national charities, Anthony Nolan and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

This year’s route will start at the firm’s Glasgow office, calling at the firm’s Leeds office on 30 June and running South, ending in Southampton and culminating in a ‘Sportive Day’ at Foxhills Country Club in Surrey. Covering a total of over 700 miles and stopping at 18 Baker Tilly offices on the way, each day around 50 riders will complete up to 80 miles.

Last year’s event saw around 300 staff and guests take part, and raised more than £20,000.

Kevin O’Connor, managing partner at Baker Tilly’s Leeds office said: “It’s fantastic that for the second year running we are able to bring together our staff and guests, raise money for Anthony Nolan and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and have some fun whilst doing so.

“The support we received from our staff and clients who took part last year and those who donated was overwhelming, and it’s clear from the response we’ve had so far that this year’s event will be even bigger and better, I look forward to seeing the Tour de Baker Tilly pass through Leeds this year.”

Global law firm Squire Patton Boggs’ Leeds office took centre stage Leeds railway station on 15 May for a Disney-themed singathon in aid of the NSPCC.

The NSPCC have been selected as the firm’s Charity of the Year for 2015.

The singathon is part of a calendar of activity to raise money for NSPCC’s work in Leeds which has already seen the law firm host a corporate netball tournament and enter a team in the Leeds half marathon.

Later this month the company will take part in a Banger Rally race across Europe before training begins for the Yorkshire Three peaks in July.

Hannah Kendrick, corporate partner and head of the Squire Patton Boggs charity committee, said: “We had such a great response from the commuters of Leeds, who seemed genuinely surprised to be greeted by Disney songs on a Friday morning! It was a fantastic experience and we are all thrilled to have raised over £2,000 for the NSPCC.”

Tess O’Callaghan, NSPCC corporate manager, said: “What a great way to raise money for the NSPCC! The group sounded wonderful and I would like to thank them all for their hard work and for coming up with such an original and successful idea.”
