Jobs at risk as modular building firm closes Driffield site

MODULAR building specialist Caledonian is undertaking a restructure, and is in consultation with staff regarding the closure of its Driffield site.

Operations would transfer to the firm’s main facilities at Newark in the East Midlands.

Job losses for the Driffield site are expected to be “minimal” with “key roles” at Driffield being transferred to Newark.

The firm said that 160 jobs could be created at the Newark facility over the next 18 months.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “The business is streamlining its operations as part of a transformation programme that will see the business double revenues over the next three years.

“The company has a Lean Manufacturing Programme currently underway and is investing significantly in its business management systems/processes. In addition to this, the company is developing a number of innovative new products that are market segment focused.”

A spokesman for the company said: “Caledonian has ambitious plans to double revenue over the next few years and has a clear business plan that sets out its strategy and growth objectives, in conjunction with an ongoing investment in its manufacturing facilities and people.”

Caledonian Modular is a subsidiary of Champion Homes – the largest offsite house builder in the US with annual revenues in excess of £540m.
