17th century building acquired by Leeds Brewery

A FORMER York restaurant has been acquired by the Leeds Brewery Company.

The asking price for the lease, business goodwill, fixtures and fittings was £79,500, but the price paid was undisclosed. 

The 38 year-old business, Plunkets Restaurant was run by a family,and was famed for having its walls signed by the Rolling Stones in 1968.

The 17th century building, which was built around 1640 as a timber-framed property. It was built for the local doctor as his principal residence and records have found that there is evidence of the Terry family, famous local chocolatiers, owning the property in order to make and sell their confectionery.

It was established in 1977 as a restaurant.

The Leeds Brewery Company has acquired the business and lease of the site, and have also obtained planning consent to carry out alterations on the building.

They will continue to run it as a public house with a food offering, after it has been closed
